Memorial Day Weekend 2018

Coming back from vacation is always the hardest! It's also my last week at home before headed back to work so I'm super bummed about coming back to reality this week. All that being said, we had the very best time at our favorite place this past week!

Lincoln, Finn and I headed out to Hat Island with my mom last Monday for a full week of island fun! We introduced Huckleberry Finn to the island and while he can't quite enjoy it yet, I think it's safe to say he's a fan. Lincoln had a BLAST and was treated to a few extra special adventures this trip.

We arrived late on Monday and got settled in. It was the first time Lincoln slept in a room all by himself and he was a champ! I think it helped that he really tired himself out playing in the sun each and every day. Our first full day was Tuesday and we took full advantage. There was plenty of laying low, a slow walk, and lots of fun digging in the sand!

Later on in the week, my parents neighbors asked Lincoln if he wanted to take a 4-wheeler ride up to the island fire station and he was so excited! He got treated to a special tour and couldn't stop talking about it or "Fireman Bill."

Thursday night we had the biggest mishap ever, when poor Lincoln woke up in the middle of the night, came into my room and proceeded to throw up all over me, the bed, floor, himself, etc. It was horrible, but he stayed calm and we got it cleaned up and everyone back to bed. He felt much better Friday morning, but I was TIRED.

Friday evening my dad and Kevin arrived! We enjoyed having the extra hands and Lincoln and Finn enjoyed having daddy around, because he's way more adventurous and fun than mommy is! Kevin and Lincoln enjoyed a few kayak rides as well as some more adventurous exploring.

Saturday we had some friends out for a few hours. After they headed home and my parents headed to an island dinner, we cozied up with a movie and a fire for the evening.

Sunday morning we woke up and took Lincoln to the fireman's breakfast! As a fundraiser, they open up the island fire station and serve breakfast. Lincoln was beyond excited to get to eat breakfast inside a fire station, but even more so to see all of the fire trucks again. This kid was in heaven. The rest of Sunday was spent relaxing as we settled in for our final night on the island.

Now it's back to reality. I'm soaking up every last minute with my Huckleberry Finn before having to head to work on Monday.

Finn's Baptism

This past Saturday, our little Finnaroo was baptized! It was a special day for our little guy and our family and we were so happy to have my brother Griffin, and good friend, Morgan, serve as his godparents.

Finn was baptized on Saturday evening, May 19th after 4:30 mass at St. Augustine's Catholic Church.  Afterwards we all headed back to our house to celebrate with dinner and cake!

Special thanks to my little sister, Sara, for snapping all the photos!

Mother's Day 2018

Nothing brings you back to reality like the Monday after Mother's Day...am I right?

This past Sunday my boys treated me to sleeping in, coffee in bed, a new pair of birkenstocks (!!!) and an evening picnic in the park. It was the sweetest!

Mother's Day kicked off Friday when Lincoln brought home the sweetest little hand cutout and bracelet that he made at school for me. Those little school crafts the kids make for Mother's Day and Father's Day and really any holiday are just the sweetest! And of course, because he can't keep a surprise, he walked in the door from school and promptly told me he had a present for me and that I had to open it right away!

Fast forward to Sunday where I got to sleep in till 8!!! It doesn't sound late, but when your normal wake up call is around 5:45 am (when do they start to sleep in?!?!) 8 am seems like 11! All three of my boys snuck off to get me a coffee from a local coffee shop and brought it to me in bed. Once we were up, showered and had attended mass, we headed downtown so I could pick out my new birkenstocks (I have been wanting a pair for a year now!). Nordstrom's didn't have the color/style I wanted, so we went back home and I ordered them directly from the birkenstock store online. Hopefully they'll arrive this week!

It was a busy morning, and kiddos were getting fussy, so Lincoln and I laid down for a nap (more sleep!) while Kevin took Finn and Porter for a walk. After a long afternoon nap, we were ready for our picnic in the park! Kevin picked out all my favorites: Rose, Caprese, Apples and Sharp Cheddar and we enjoyed a fun little evening in the park before bringing the kiddos back home for bed time.

It was a wonderful Mother's Day!

Fire Station Open House

This past Saturday, a local fire station hosted an open house for families. When we heard about it, we knew we had to attend, because a certain 3 year old of ours, is OBSESSED with all things firemen related.

The night before we read (for the million plus time) his fire engine book. There's a page in the book that shows all the knobs and levers that are on a fire truck and he has been asking us what they do for months. Well, when we learned about the open house, we told him that one of the firemen could probably tell him what the levers do. Saturday morning as we got ready to head out he grabbed his book to bring with in hopes of getting all his questions answered. It was the sweetest!

The firemen and women did not disappoint! Lincoln walked up to them ever so shyly and quietly opened his book to the page to ask them what each knob and lever did. The firemen didn't skip a beat. They took Lincoln over to the real fire truck, showed him each knob and lever, compared it to the ones in his book and answered all his questions. We probably could have left after that and he would have been so happy, but the open house was full of too many other fun activities and tours to miss out on.

He got to climb down a ladder, spray a fire house, watch a helicopter land, tour the trucks AND the fire station and met Sparky the firedog, and Smokey the Bear. This kid was in fire station heaven.
Needless to say, it was such a great morning and we have one happy kiddo on our hands. I have a feeling he'll be talking about this day for many weeks and months to come!

Home Depot Kids Workshop

A few weeks ago, Kevin took Lincoln out to check out the Kids Workshop at our local Home Depot. For those not familiar with this, it's a free workshop Home Depot hosts the first Saturday of every month, where kids come to build a different craft. It was our first time attending and Lincoln had a blast!

Each kit is handed out and while it does need a lot of parent help/involvement, they have it pretty well organized and you get in and out fairly quickly. For those unable to stay and build, I believe you can take your kit home with you too. The key is getting there early because once they're out of kits, you're out of luck.

The May workshop was a little windmill planter. Lincoln had so much fun, building (with a bunch of help from Kevin) and then painting his little windmill. Once he was done, Kevin took him to pick out his own little plant to put in it.

He's already excited to go back for the next workshop next month!

Life Lately || April 2018

Time is flying and there have been several times throughout the month of April where I wanted to post an update on the blog with all the fun we've had, but #twokids. So, instead of posting each and every update separately, I thought it would be best to just do a quick life update from the month of April!

The weather has finally been getting warmer, so we've spent a ton of time at the park. Earlier this month, we ventured out to the Discovery Playground out in the Valley. It was our first time out there and it was a hit! We will definitely be back for more fun.

April is Kevin's birthday month! We had a low key celebration at home with homemade cake and a few small presents. That weekend, my parents generously offered to take Lincoln overnight and Finn for a few hours so we could have a little date night in. We made dinner, watched The Greatest Showman, and made a few cocktails before picking up Finn and calling it a night. The next day we scooped up Lincoln as well and headed out for donuts!

As I mentioned above, we've spent a lot of time at the park...we've also been spending our fair share of time watching and waiting for the garbage man...a highlight of the week for Lincoln! Walking back to the house from the park one day it was prime garbage man watching time and Lincoln chased down each garbage truck as it passed. It was pretty cute to watch! By the time we got back to the house, he had to run out to greet the garbage truck as it approached our house as well.

A friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer last Fall. The diagnosis was quite a surprise. They tackled the diagnosis with a pretty aggressive treatment plan, and she is coming up on her last day of treatment. To celebrate she gathered a group of friends and their kiddos to walk in the Pink Ribbon 5K, our town's local breast cancer charity. Lincoln tagged along and we had a fun morning walking with friends!

We rounded out the month with some quality family time...hanging out with my sister and Finn and Lincoln's cousin, Hudson.  Hudson will be one in June and he has grown so much in the past year! He recently started crawling so it was fun for Lincoln to see him follow him around a bit.

And lastly, these two photos are just random ones I took the other day, but I love them so much of my little dude so I thought I'd throw them in for fun ;)
