Bumpdate: 31 Weeks

how far along: 31 weeks, 4 days

estimated due date: august 16, 2014

size of baby: baby "a" is the size of a bunch of asparagus stalks! (don't ask me how to figure out the whole fruit comparison, one week he's an eggplant, the next week he's a bunch of scrawny asparagus...I don't get it)

sleep: sleep....wonderful sleep. I miss it so much. between trying to find a comfortable position to sleep in and having to get up to use the bathroom, I don't really think I can achieve sleep in more than 1 or 2 hour spurts.

total weight gain: I don't wanna talk about it. grrrrrrr

symptoms: hello swollen feet. you are so not my friend. the extra trips to the bathroom are getting a little frustrating and I'm so TIRED all.the.time. I think 3rd trimester fatigue is way more intense than first trimester fatigue, because you have all the added weight to go with it.

movement: this little guy is active! and this mama loves it! kick away little man....it makes me feel like everything is going well in there.

maternity clothes: full on maternity clothes....I'm kind of over it and wishing I could wear regular clothes again.

go to eats: fruit, veggies, red meat, and SWEETS!!! I am a sweet tooth monster and it's no bueno.

best moment of the week: little man kicked so hard you could see it through my shirt! husband is also getting to feel him more and more, so that's always cool.

gender: my little man

what i wish people knew: I'm over it. done. get this little guy to the finish line and serve him an eviction notice, because mama wants her body back. I'd also like to sleep again (ha! I know what I'm in for) and get rid of the hip and back pain. You know, to ultimately feel like a normal person again would be nice.

what i'm looking forward to: moving day! decorating little man's nursery and his BIRTHday.

milestones: little man is near 16.2 inches long and probably around 3.5 lbs. #growlittlemangrow

Bumpdate: 29 Weeks!

how far along: 29 weeks, 4 days...beginning of my 8th month!

estimated due date: august 16, 2014

size of baby: baby "a" is the size of a butternut squash!

sleep: sleep has actually been better, but little man has taken up residence right on top of my bladder which means I get up about 16 times a night to use the bathroom...at least I'm able to fall back asleep relatively quickly ;0)

Photo taken at about 27 weeks

total weight gain: I don't wanna talk about it. grrrrrrr

symptoms: hello swollen feet. I mean really....I didn't know it was possible for them to even get that big. it looks like I'm walking around with two giant blowfish on my feet. they're also pretty sore and it even looks like they're bruising. bottom line: it's so not cute.

movement: yup! I'm pretty used to the little kicks now, but when I can feel him moving in circles or doing flips it weirds me out like woah. he's mostly active when I relax for the evening, but he'll get me every now and then after I eat during the day.

maternity clothes: full on maternity clothes....I'm kind of over it and wishing I could wear regular clothes again.

go to eats: I'm all about the red meat right now. it's most likely because at my last doctor's appointment they did some blood test (and the glucose test which I passed!!) and I'm really low in iron, so I now have to take an iron supplement. I also am craving cheeseburgers and steak like woah. sweets are another biggy (hence the reason I'm not to keen to talk about the weight gain) and fruit is still really yummy.

One of my besties and I....she's three weeks ahead of me and having a boy too! #babyboybffs

best moment of the week: this is a little un-related to being pregnant, but husband and I are soooo close to closing on our first home, which means i'll actually get to decorate a nursery in time for little man's arrival (assuming he doesn't surprise us and come early!).

gender: my little man

what i wish people knew: I had no idea how hard the last 12 weeks would be. You go from feeling pretty good, and having energy and still feeling like you can go, go, go and then all of a sudden, you get into your third trimester and EVERYTHING IS SO HARD. I am so tired (probably even more than in the first trimester), sore, swollen and feel like a giant beached whale. Even trying to get 30 minutes of exercise in seems like a daunting task, and it's so overwhelming to not be able to feel like your normal, energetic self. it's also been difficult adding in all the extra "stuff" going on in our lives right now, including moving, trying to buy a house, starting new jobs and getting used to new schedules. throw in living with your parents (which we're incredibly grateful for) while trying to buy said new house and not really having your own "space" to completely relax in and some days can be really frustrating. it's all temporary (or so that's what people keep telling me) but some days it feels like you're drowning in all the stuff and you're never going to be able to get out. 10.5 more weeks and we'll be at the finish line, and I am more than ready for that day to come.

what i'm looking forward to: buying our house, decorating little man's nursery and of course "D-Day!"

milestones: baby boy's lungs are developed enough to breath air and he's getting bigger (almost 3 lbs!)

Brewmaster

way back before christmas (i know i know it's june and i'm posting something from christmas, but bear with me), husband decided to brew his own beer. he's pretty cool like that.

it took a little bit of time (okay a lot of time), some really big pots, a few funky smells and a lot of patience, but he did it! he successfully brewed his own caribou slobber ale from a home brew kit i had bought him the christmas before (hey, sometimes it takes us a while to get around to things in our house ;0p).

i begged and begged him to write a little post about the process, but he's kinda busy with full time school, full time work and preparing to be a full time papa. he did however, let me take photos of the super long (and crazy cool) process which i thought i'd share with you below!

for those of you interested in home brewing, i don't have any words of wisdom, advice or how-to's, but i do have a link to the kit we purchased in case you want to check it out for yourself!

Ham, Spinach & Cheddar Quiche

you guys. moving sucks. i mean, moving can be exciting and fun and it's always nice to have a fresh start, but the whole packing boxes, loading them into a truck, driving across the state(s) and then unloading and unpacking, well, it really sucks. add in being 7 months preggo, and let's just say i'm not a fan. but we're done. for now at least. until we move again in (hopefully 4 to 5 weeks - hello first time home buyers!).

but enough about that...this is what i really meant to say...

hi friends! remember back here how i told you we had a TON of leftover easter ham? well, this recipe is another way i found to use up the leftover ham.

it's also super easy and a quick weeknite meal, which is preferable in our house this week as we pack up our lives to move back to the 'kane. ;0)

similar to the calzone post, i think quiches are great because you can throw together any combo that sounds good! one of my favorite is a roasted corn and broccoli cheddar quiche as well as a bacon, onion and gruyere quiche. yummy! i'm drooling just thinking of the combos.

also very much like the calzone post, i didn't post exact measurements because you can throw in as little or as much of a particular ingredient depending on your preference, size of a pie crust/pan, etc.

i started with 4 eggs  mixed together with a little milk (about 1/4 cup), then i tossed in a baggy full of the leftover easter ham, a few generous handfuls of spinach (feel free to be generous with spinach because it always shrinks down when you cook it!), some red onion and lots and lots of cheddar cheese! i love cheese!!

if it looks like you need a little extra egg or milk to cover up all the ingredients, feel free to toss one more in there, but make sure you don't overflow your pie crust! if i think i need a little more egg, i'll pour the existing mixture into the pie crust, see how much room i have left, mix up an egg in a bowl and then pour it in till the mixture just reaches the top of the pie crust.

i mixed everything together and poured it into a frozen (read: store-bought) pie crust and baked it in a 350 degree heated oven for about 35-40 minutes or until the eggs set in the middle.

this is a great as dinner with a simple side salad and makes great leftovers for breakfast or lunch the next day!

enjoy!
