Apple Picking

The best time of the year is in full swing and you better believe we've already decorated the house in anticipation of Fall. I know it's not technically the first day of Fall until this Saturday, but in my mind, Fall begins right after Labor Day weekend.

This past weekend, we took full advantage of the cooler weather and headed up to Greenbluff (our favorite!) to pick apples and get our first batch of pumpkin donuts from Harvest House. Lincoln had so much fun carting around the boxes, picking apples and eating more than his share of pumpkin donuts. Finn was just happy to be along for the ride.

I was of course excited to join the fun and photograph each step of the way! Below are a few pictures from our day.

Junior Fire Academy

This past weekend, downtown Spokane in partnership with the Spokane County Fire Department held a free Junior Fire Academy for kids of all ages. To say it was a must do event for our fire truck loving four year old is an understatement!

Two of his best buds from school also attended and the three of them together had so much fun!

We ended up arriving about 30 minutes early and were greeted with an early fire truck tour all by ourselves! One of the firefighters, Tanner, came up to Lincoln and took him through all of the bells and whistles on one of the ladder trucks. Lincoln got to jump up in the drivers seat and enjoyed every minute of his personal tour.

Once the crowds started to show there were a few lines we had to wait in, but it was definitely worth the wait to watch the kids have so much fun running through the fire fighter obstacle course they set up for them. After completing all of the activities on their passport, they earned a Junior Firefighter Certificate and a free slice of pizza from David's pizza.

Lincoln had a blast! We even managed to snag a photo of Firefighter Finn too!

Labor Day Weekend 2018

Another Labor Day, another island trip in the books! Which means another picture heavy post!

We headed back to Hat Island this past weekend to spend the long weekend with family. My sister, her husband and little one, Hudson, my parents and our little family of four spent Friday through Monday at the beach.

Like all good holiday weekends, we spent our time eating, sleeping, drinking and enjoying each other's company. We each took a breakfast, lunch and dinner to to contribute and to say we ate till we couldn't eat anymore is an understatement.

The kiddos spent time digging in the sand, collecting seashells and digging for clams. Lincoln was more than excited to help catch some crabbies and surprised us all by digging in and eating them too.

Finn was just happy to be there as is his good natured self. Now we're back, ready to embrace the very best time of the year!

Happy Fall, ya'll!

Fall Bucket List

It's time for my favorite part of the year! And it wouldn't be Fall without my annual Fall bucket list. Many of these are repeats from year's past, but there are a few new ideas in there for this year. I've divided it up into a few categories below including "The Classics," "Must Watch Fall Movies + Shows!" and "Comfort Food" because nothing says cozy and fall, like comfort food!

Here we go....

The Classics:

Apple Picking
 Annual Pumpkin Carving Competition
Fall Decor
Jumping in Leaf Piles
Costume Scheming!
Football
Spokane Interstate Fair

Must Watch Fall Favorites!
Hocus Pocus (we may have already watched this once or twice)
Ghostbusters (this will be new for Lincoln this year!)
It's a Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
Addams Family
Casper the Friendly Ghost
Edward Scissorhands
Beetle Juice
Shawn of the Dead
Sleepy Hollow
Teen Witch
Gilmore Girls (something about this show just screams cozy nostalgia for me)
*A few of those movies listed above are more for adults than kiddos, definitely not letting the little ones watch Edward Scissorhands, Beetle Juice, Shawn of the Dead or Sleepy Hollow. I'm torn on Addams Family.

Comfort Food & Drinks
Hot Cocoa (and to make it more fun, 16 different alcoholic Hot Cocoa recipes!)
Hot Apple Cider
Bourbon Brunch (new to me!)

Finally, last year's fall bucket list is here!

Baby Finn || 6 Months

Finn is 6 months old today! We've made it a whole half a year. Needless to say, this past 6 months has flown by.

Finn is such a big boy and achieving milestones left and right. Sometimes, I have to slow down and remember that he's just 6 months, even though I look at him and I see a 9-10 month old baby.

This month has been a good one for sure! Finn is now sitting up all on his own and is interested in everything. We've also started the wonderful world of tantrums where he arches his back and tries to wriggle free when he's not happy with something. This is extremely prevalent when it comes to the car seat in particular. He's not a fan.

He is still putting everything and anything in his mouth at all times, even my hair. We don't have any teeth yet, but I can't imagine that they're far away. He is one drooly little dude that's for sure.

He is starting daycare next week and we attended the grand opening of the new infant room at Lincoln's school where Finn will also be going. The building is beautiful and while I know he's in wonderful hands, I hate that my sweet boys have to be shipped off to daycare.

We are still slowly working on solids. For as big a boy as Finn is, he is not a huge fan of eating. It's a struggle to get him to finish a bottle and he's just not that into solid food yet. We've tried a handful of things, including most fruits and veggies that can easily be blended up and he even got his first taste of some blended up pork roast, but regardless of what we give him, he scrunches his nose up at us.
He is also struggling with the whole chewing motion, often times choking on thicker purees and those baby teething biscuits. It's a strange occurence because Lincoln took to solids so quickly and so well. We never really ran into issues with chewing, choking, etc. They are proving to be two very different little boys!

Lincoln and Finn are loving each other more and more. Lincoln is constantly asking to play with him and we are constantly reminding him to be gentle. Finn stares in awe of Lincoln and is constantly tracking him with his eyes. Watching them bond is such a fun experience.

Finn is a talker for sure. He gets that from his mama and is constantly cooing and babbling away. From the moment he wakes up in the morning until he goes to bed, we're hearing him chat away. And speaking of sleep, or lack there of, he is not the greatest at it. I hadn't thought Lincoln was a great sleeper, but he is putting Finn to shame with his sleep game. Finn is still struggling to go even 5 hours at night and is still needing a bottle to get back to bed. I am hoping that when we get back from the island this Labor Day, sleep training will work, but who knows.

That is 6 months in a nutshell. We are loving our baby boy more and more. He is such a happy, smiley little dude and we just love having him around!

And for comparison...Lincoln's 6 month update is here!
